About BioAutism

BioAutism Ltd is a Health Promotion Charity (HPC) with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Our objective is to help identify some of the causes of autism so that in the future we may all benefit from its early detection using biomarkers, and help establish improved diagnosis and treatment protocols.

It will encourage dialogue between parents and researchers through the website, newsletters, public lectures, and conferences. BioAutism Ltd also aims to educate the community and governments on the need for more funding in this area.

BioAutism Ltd is the only charity in Australia solely dedicated to supporting research into the causes of autism.

Since the 1940's, autism has been classed as a psychological disorder.  However in the last 10-15 years there has been considerable research carried out overseas which suggests the symptoms of autism are (epi)genetic and biochemical in origin. It is our aim to encourage much more such research in Australia.

During the period 2000-2009 about 80% of government funding went into  investigating the physical, social, and psychological aspects of autism. It is only since 2010 that there has been an increase in funding for basic research into the causes of autism.  Even so, the level of funding is still well below what is needed.
